Stories

Today we recived our A Level photography exam paper.
There were some interesting titles- Connected Images, Abstraction in the Landscape...but the one that struck me was "Literature".

I've got a favor to ask everyone- do you know of any photographers who have produced a series of photographs based around a poem, a song, a book?
I would be really really pleased if anyone could get back to me...it doesn't matter if they're professional photographers, or amateur. I would love to see ANYTHING.

Also, if you know of anyone who might know of shoots...could you ask them?

Pretty please!

Here are two I thought of immediately:
Tracey Boyd's Summer Alphabet

Have you ever read the book of flower fairies? It's not exactly what you're looking for, but there are some pretty good paintings to go with the poem that combine the flower itself with the character of the fairy.

Also, Gustav Doré is quite well known for his illustrations, the most famous of these being his engraved metal plate illustrations for the Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner.

For example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Gustave_Dore_Ancient_Mariner_Illustration.jpg

nothing springs to mind straight away, although i'd say there must be plenty of wimilar things based around alice in wonderland. actually there's an exhibition every year here in ireland called the 'wexford artist's book exhibition' and i seem to remember a few that used photography as the main medium. not sure if there's much on the web about it but it's worth a try!

I've been thinking about this, but haven't come up with anything so far. There are probably a lot based on fairy tales though.

That's gorgeous. There's the Wizard of Oz shoot with Keira Knightely.

Tim Walker takes a lot of great photos...I don't know if they're directly influenced by literature but they're definitely along that line. I hope that helps :)

It seems like we are both on the same exam board for photography (perhaps there is only one exam board for photography... it is a very popular subject after all!)

Have you thought of browsing through on Deviant Art? Although finding an artist on Deviant Art is not what I prefer, however, a photographically very capable friend raves about the amazing scope of artists on there. Thus far, 80% of her artist research has originated from there and she has yet to drop a single mark, so these days I eat up her words as if they were made of gold!

Best wishes for your project!

(Psst, spelling hates my guts and makes it nigh on impossible for me to post anything right the first time around!)
